Summit The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur
of the Year (EOY) World Summit was established in 2005, when it brought together
past EOY winners for the first time in almost 20 years. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur
Of The Year World Summit aims to become the ‘Davos’ of entrepreneurs, challenging
the traditional notions of entrepreneurship. There
is now a substantial network of EOY winners, including names such as Michael Dell
of Dell Inc., Steve Case of America Online Inc., Pierre Omidyar of eBay Inc.,
Irwin M. Jacobs of QUALCOMM Inc., Francis Yeoh of YTL Corp., Ratan Tata of The
Tata Group, Narayana N R Murthy of Infosys Technologies Ltd., Tony Tan Caktiong
of Jollibee Foods Corporation and H. Wayne Huizenga of Huizenga Holdings. So
how did it all begin? Ernst & Young first introduced the Entrepreneur Of The Year®
awards in the United States in 1986 to recognize and salute the accomplishments
of the great men and women who contribute to the vibrancy of the global economy.
Since then, the program has grown throughout the world, expanding to more than
35 countries on six continents and in more than 125 cities. Entrepreneur
Of The Year is unique because it takes place at a global level – not just at a
national or regional level - in the form of the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur
Of The Year. This event gathers the Entrepreneur Of The Year country winners from
around the world,.inducts them into the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Academy
and selects one to be that year’s World Entrepreneur Of The Year. The
first Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year World Summit was held in Singapore
in February 2005. The 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year World Summit
will be held in Monte Carlo on 6-11 June and will culminate with the World Entrepreneur
Of The Year Awards Ceremony and Gala on Saturday evening, 10 June.
