The responsibility of choosing the Top Nominees and the Award Recipients for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year®- Malaysia 2006 was entrusted to an Independent Panel of Judges which comprised leading figures from the local business community.

Ernst & Young thanks all members of the Panel of Judges for their time and support contributed towards this programme.

 

Mr Vincent Leusner
American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce
 
Mr Vincent Leusner is the Chief Financial Officer for Grey Global Group, a New York based integrated advertising and communications company, for the Asia Pacific region, and the President of AMCHAM, the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce.

AMCHAM Malaysia is an international, non-profit, private-sector business association comprised of more than 750 members representing over 330 American, Malaysian, and other international companies.

Mr Leusner has held his post with Grey since March of 2000 and has held the Presidency of AMCHAM since May of 2005.

He is also a board member of MACEE (the Malaysian American Commission on Educational Exchange) which administers the Fulbright Scholarship program in Malaysia.

Mr Leusner, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is a graduate of a small school in America's industrial heartland, West Liberty State College in West Liberty, West Virginia. @ Sept 06

Mr Devanesan Evanson

Mr Devanesan Evanson, aged 51, a Malaysian, is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London in 1989. He is a Governor and past president of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia and a member of the Malaysian Advisory Committee of ACCA.

He has over 14 years of experience in the field of external and internal audit and has held various key positions within the Bursa Malaysia group including Head of Internal Audit, Senior Vice President, Compliance & Inspection, Senior Vice President, Legal Advisory (Market Supervision), Head of Group Internal Audit and Risk Management, Deputy Chief Regulatory Officer in September 2005 and Chief Regulatory Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad effective 1 August 2006. @ Sept 06

Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin
Federation Of Women Entrepreneur Associations Of Malaysia
 
Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin is the Chairman of Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations of Malaysia (FEM) and a Board Member of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Besides this, she is also the President of Persatuan Wanita Bumiputra Dalam Perniagaan & Profesyen Malaysia (Peniagawati) and is actively involved with the National Association of Women Entrepreneur of Malaysia (NAWEM). Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin also sits on the Board of Scientex Incorporated Berhad as a nominee for Permodalan Nasional Berhad.

Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin is the Founder and Managing Director of Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd which designs and develops top quality and high performance automotive, industrial and specialty lubricants and other petroleum derivatives. Her astute business acumen propelled Hyrax Oil to grow from strength to strength, now exporting to 12 countries including to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and the Middle East.

Over the years, Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin received numerous accolades for her contributions and achievements including the Ernst & Young Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia 2002. In 2004, she was the Project Director for the Antarctic Solo Expedition 2004. She organised the expedition and raised funds for Datin Seri Paduka Sharifah Mazlina who achieved a world record for crossing the South Pole.

Through her promotion of entrepreneurship, Y Bhg Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin has inspired many budding entrepreneurs, of both genders, to venture into the business world. @ Sept 06

Malaysian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2005
 
Tan Sri Dato' Professor Dr Lim is a rare combination of a creative mind with sharp business acumen.

Having joined the advertising industry at an early age, Tan Sri Lim quickly rose through the ranks of McCann Erikson advertising agency to become the Regional Creative Director. He was 29 when Tan Sri Lim founded Wings Creative in 1974 and in less than 10 years, its turnover grew to RM44 million. The mid 80s and early 90s saw him as a strategic communicator, building campaigns for companies, governments and humanitarian causes. With a vision to propel Malaysia as a centre of excellence for education as well as to evoke design consciousness among Malaysians, Tan Sri Lim established Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology in 1991 and in just 12 years nurtured it to University status. Today Limkokwing University is one of Malaysia's leading brands, recognised for international quality education. What started as a college with 200 students in rented premises is today a fully-owned full facility RM100 million campus in Cyberjaya with 4,000 students from 65 countries.

Ever the philantrophist, Tan Sri Lim is closely associated with more than ten charity organisations, and over the years, has received numerous accolades for his many accomplishments.

In recognition of his impressive achievements and proven track record, Tan Sri Lim was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2005 for Malaysia and represented the country at the World Awards at Monte Carlo in June 2006. @ Sept 06

Dato' Mangsor Saad
Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD)
 
Dato' Mangsor Saad, is the Secretary General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.

Equipped with a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Dato' Mangsor served 31 years in public service in various capacities in the government sector, including holding positions such as Deputy Secretary General (Entrepreneur) MECD, Chief Executive Officer of the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC) an agency under MITI and as the Director of ASEAN Economic Cooperation Division, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

During his stint as Director of the ASEAN Economic Cooperation Division, he was actively engaged in international level negotiations and meetings involving works in APEC, ASEM and ASEAN. Dato' Mangsor represented Malaysia as Chairman in various Committees, including AFTA (CEPT) and SME Committees during that period. Dato' Mangsor has also participated in various international programmes including at Toyota, Japan and Nomura Advanced School of Management, Tokyo; the Industrial Development and Systemic Competitiveness Study in Berlin Germany, and the Executive Economic Policy Programme at Stanford University, USA.

In recognition of his long and excellent service to the nation, Dato' Mangsor was awarded the title DSDK which carries the designation "Dato'" by the Sultan of Kedah in 2006.@ Sept 06

Dato' Dr Abu Talib Bin Bachik

Dato' Dr Abu Talib holds BSc/MSc degrees from the Louisiana State University, USA and a Doctorate in Agriculture Science from University of Gent Belgium. He had held numerous positions in the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia including serving as the Deputy Director General (Development) in the Malaysian Rubber Board before he joined MDec in 1999. A well-known researcher in the rubber industry, he has authored about 50 Scientific Research Papers.

Dato' Dr Abu Talib is currently the Senior Vice President of the Technopreneur Development Division in MDeC. Prior to holding office in this capacity, he held various other positions, including a stint as the President of Streetmarkets.com., a subsidiary company of MDEC. Dato' Dr Abu Talib had initiated many collaborative programmes, including: the JAVA Technopreneur Development Centre and a programme with MARA, to promote technopreneurship amongst Bumiputra in the various states; with other developing countries under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP); and with several countries to open markets for MSC companies.

He is the founder member of the MSC - Asia Pacific ICT Awards in 1999, which led to the formation of the International APICTA event with 14 member economies participating. Over the years, Dato' Dr Abu Talib has represented MDEC to speak at various Local and International speaking engagements. @ Sept 06

Ms Dorothy Teoh
The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd
 
Ms Dorothy Teoh was among the pioneer batch of journalists who launched The Edge - Malaysia's first and still only business and investment weekly - in 1994. She joined The Edge as Chief Copy Editor and was made Deputy Managing Editor in 2000. From March 2003 to May 2005, she took on additional responsibilities as Managing Editor of the regional monthly Asia Inc, and worked with Ho Kay Tat, who was concurrently Editor of The Edge and Editor of Asia Inc.

In December 2003, she assumed the post of Deputy Group Editor in Chief at Nexnews Bhd, publisher of both The Edge and theSun.

Prior to joining The Edge, she was a journalist with The Star from 1983 to 1984 and again from 1986 to 1989. She also spent three years at the think-tank ISIS Malaysia as Deputy Editor of the ISIS monthly newsletter.

Dorothy graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1982 with a BA (Second Class Upper with Hons), majoring in Mass Communication. She earned her MA in Communication from the University of Hawaii in 1986. @ Sept 06
