The responsibility of choosing the Top Nominees and the Award Recipients for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year®- Malaysia 2004 was entrusted to an Independent Panel of Judges which comprised leading figures from the local business community.

Ernst & Young thanks all members of the Panel of Judges for their time and support contributed towards this programme.

 

En Yusli Mohamed Yusoff
Bursa Malaysia Berhad
 
En Yusli Mohamed Yusoff was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad [formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange Berhad (KLSE)] by YAB Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi with effect from 1 March 2004.

En Yusli, 45, is a chartered accountant with established experience in financial accounting in Britain and Malaysia and in managing public companies in Malaysia.

A graduate in Economics from the University of Essex, Britain, he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales and Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He began his career in accountancy serving with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co, London and Hugin Sweda PLC, London.

In Malaysia, En Yusli went on to hold key positions in prominent corporations including Faber Group Berhad, Time Engineering Berhad, Renong Berhad, Shapadu Corporation Sdn Bhd, Sime Merchant Bankers Berhad, Intria Berhad and Metacorp Berhad.

En Yusli’s direct involvement in the Malaysian securities industry and the Bursa Malaysia (formerly known as KLSE) group has been expanded extensively since the year 2000, in his previous capacity as Chief Executive Director, CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd, Chairman, Association of Stockbroking Companies Malaysia, Director of Malaysia Derivatives Exchange Bhd and Committee Member of KLSE.

As Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, En Yusli brings with him over 20 years experience and expertise in financial management, risk management and business development.

En Yusli presently sits on the Capital Market Development Fund Board and is an EXCO member of the Financial Reporting Foundation/Malaysian Accounting Standards Board. He is also the President of Victoria Institution Old Boys’ Association.@ Sept 04

Puan Mariam Tun Sulaiman
Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations of Malaysia
 
Puan Mariam Tun Sulaiman is the Chairman of the Federation of Women Entrepreneur Associations Malaysia. She is also the Immediate Past President of the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia (NAWEM).

Currently the Managing Director of IBYO (M) Sdn Bhd, an IB Your Office Global Business Center Network franchise system for Malaysia, she was the Managing Director and a shareholder of Rampai-Niaga Sdn Bhd which holds the Malaysian franchise for the renowned UK-based skin and hair care retail chain franchise, The Body Shop. She is also the Director of Intan Sachet Sdn Bhd and Managing Director of Animale Collection (M) Sdn Bhd. Puan Mariam also sits on the Small & Medium Industries Development Corporation Board under the Ministry of International Trade & Industry. Puan Mariam has a consuming interest in the plight of women in business and she continues to speak locally and abroad, on subjects relating to the role of women in business.

Ministry of Entrepreneur And Cooperative Development
 
Dato’ Halimah is the Deputy Secretary General (Development) of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.

Prior to assuming this position, she was the Under Secretary for the Entrepreneur Training Division as well as for the Entrepreneur Development Division in the same Ministry. She was also attached to the Ministry of Rural Development from 1989 to 1994 as well as with the Ministry of Finance from 1972 to 1986.

She holds a Masters in Social Science from the University of Birmingham United Kingdom as well as a degree from University Malaya. She also holds a diploma in Development Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. @ Sept 04

Dr. Abu Talib bin Bachik

Dr Abu Talib Bin Bachik is the Senior Vice President, Client Services, Multimedia Development Corporation.

Prior to joining MDC in 1999 he had also held numerous positions in the civil service including serving as the Deputy Director General (Development) Malaysian Rubber Board.

Dr Abu Talib holds a Master of Science degree from the Louisiana State University, USA and a Doctorate in Agriculture Science from University of Gent, Belgium. @ Sept 04

Y. Bhg Dato’ Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh
Nadicorp Holdings Sdn Bhd
 
Dato’ Mohd. Nadzmi was named the Malaysian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2003 and represented the country at the 4th Annual Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year® Awards in Monte Carlo in May 2004.

Equipped with Masters of Arts M.A. in Economics and Statistics from Miami University USA, Dato’ Mohd. Nadzmi started his career as a professional manager – He was appointed the CEO of Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd and soon later as CEO of Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd. He made the successful transition to being an entrepreneur in 1996 when he took over the ownership and management of Mara Holdings, subsequently renamed as Nadicorp Holdings which is today among the biggest Bumiputra private conglomerate.

His achievements earned him many accolades, including being inducted into the prestigious membership of the “Global Leaders of Tomorrow” at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland. He currently serves as the President of Badminton Association of Malaysia. @ Sept 04

En Azam Aris
The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd
 
En Azam Aris has been in the journalism line for nearly 20 years. A graduate of Mass Communications, majoring in journalism, from University Teknologi Mara, he started his career with the New Straits Times Group in 1985. There he spent nine years as a journalist, specialist writer and assistant news editor with the Business Times covering local and international business, economics and political events. He also specialised in the reporting of the timber and oil and gas industries.

In July 1994 he joined The Edge as a writer and was among the pioneer editorial staff. Later he became Associate Editor and Managing Editor of The Edge. Today he is the Group Executive Editor of The Edge and Nexnews Bhd which also publishes The Sun, The Edge Financial Daily, Personal Money and Haven. @ Sept 04
